United States President Donald Trump is considering multiple options for supporting protests in Iran, two unnamed senior US officials told the American online media outlet Axios today.
One of the officials said many in the Trump administration believe that strong military action at this stage would harm the protest movement, although military strikes on targets in Iran are still an option under consideration.
Other possibilities include measures to deter Tehran from suppressing the protests, such as announcing that a US aircraft carrier strike group is heading towards the region of Iran.
A US official said the Trump administration is considering both cyberattacks and information operations against Iranian authorities.
An anonymous Israeli military official familiar with intelligence on Iran said that Iranian authorities, following nationwide protests on Thursday, had become "significantly concerned" and had "conducted a serious reassessment of the situation," Axios reports.
