US President Donald Trump is expected to receive a briefing from senior officials in his administration on Tuesday on specific options for responding to protests in Iran, the Wall Street Journal reported today, citing US officials.
The meeting would discuss possible next steps, including military strikes, the use of covert cyberweapons against Iranian military and civilian sites, the imposition of additional sanctions on the Iranian government, and the strengthening of pro-government sources on the Internet, the newspaper said.
The White House said it had no comment on the report.
Trump, who has repeatedly threatened intervention in recent days, wrote on social media on Saturday: "Iran is looking towards FREEDOM, perhaps like never before. The US is ready to help!!!"
Reuters could not immediately confirm the Wall Street Journal report.
