International calls were possible today from some mobile phones in Iran, where internet and international phone traffic were cut off following the suppression of protests across the country.
Several people in Tehran managed to call the Associated Press (AP) and speak to reporters, but the agency's Dubai office was unable to return their calls.
People the reporters spoke to said that sending text messages still appeared to be impossible.
