Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested on Monday on suspicion of assaulting a driver, Los Angeles police said, according to the British newspaper The Guardian.
The Canadian-British actor was taken into custody after officers responded to a call from Hollywood shortly after midnight.
"The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a passenger vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim) and made criminal threats to the victim," police said in a statement.
The 59-year-old actor was released a few hours later after posting $50.000 bail, according to law enforcement. Court records show his arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 2.
Sutherland's representatives did not immediately respond to Agence France-Presse (AFP) requests for comment.
Police said the driver did not suffer any injuries that required medical attention.
Sutherland is known for his role as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in the hit series 24, which ran from 2001 to 2010. He had notable film roles in The Lost Boys (1987), Stand by Me (1986), and The Three Musketeers (1993).
Kiefer is the son of actor Donald Sutherland, who died in 2024.
