US forces in the Caribbean Sea have seized another oil tanker under sanctions that the administration of United States President Donald Trump claims is linked to Venezuela.
US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on social media that the tanker Veronica had previously passed through Venezuelan waters and acted contrary to the quarantine for sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean imposed by Trump.
Noem also released a short video that appears to show the seizure of the ship. The black-and-white footage shows helicopters hovering above the deck of the merchant ship as armed soldiers descend onto the deck using ropes.
The tanker Veronica is the sixth ship seized by US forces as part of the Trump administration's efforts to seize control of the production, processing and global distribution of Venezuelan oil products, and the third since the US kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a surprise nighttime raid nearly two weeks ago.
