Several thousand demonstrators gathered in Los Angeles in support of the protests in Iran.
They gathered waving Iranian flags from before the Islamic Revolution in downtown, near Los Angeles City Hall.
The police department estimated that there were about 4.000 participants at the "Solidarity with the People of Iran" rally. The rally was peaceful and there were no arrests, according to a police statement.
Although not always consistent, figures from both activists and Iranian government officials suggest that thousands of people have been killed in the violent crackdown on protests in Iran. The protests there began on December 28th over economic hardship but have escalated into calls for the overthrow of the theocracy.
Los Angeles is home to the largest Iranian community outside of Iran.
