The Kremlin announced today that Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation from United States President Donald Trump to join the "Committee for Peace" in Gaza, Bloomberg reports.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Putin "received the offer through diplomatic channels."
He added that Russia intends to contact the American side to clarify all the details of the proposal.
The "Peace Committee," which will act as an umbrella oversight body for Gaza and will be chaired by Trump, will be largely comprised of heads of state from around the world.
The Committee's work would begin with resolving the conflict in Gaza, and then address other conflicts.
Reuters reports that according to the draft charter, which has not yet been formally adopted, Trump would chair the Board for life.
The mandate of states on the Board would be limited to three years, unless they pay $1 billion each to fund the Board's activities and thus gain permanent membership, according to Reuters.
