Israeli President Isaac Herzog said today that he believes the future of the Iranian people can only come through regime change, by the decision of the Iranians themselves, with international support.
"The future of the Iranian people can only lie in regime change. That must ultimately be within the domain of the Iranian people and the international community and its support," Herzog said in a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
He stated that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei is in a "pretty fragile situation," and that Iran's authorities are trying to stifle the people's "natural need" for "a better life and freedom."
Herzog added that he hopes that political change will occur in Iran, because Iran and the entire region deserve better, that Iranians suffer from water and food shortages and a collapsed economy while living under a repressive regime.
"The Iranian people are hungry for change. The Iranian people deserve change. They deserve a decent life. The Iranian people live under a very repressive regime. A regime that has killed thousands of its citizens and is torturing, imprisoning and destroying thousands of families, perhaps tens of thousands, perhaps many more across Iran," the Israeli president said.
