Top US envoys met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today, urging his government to begin the second phase of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu met with President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and Middle East adviser, according to a statement from the Israeli prime minister's office, which did not provide details of the conversation.
An unnamed White House official confirmed the meeting.
The US wants to keep the ceasefire agreement brokered by Trump, but Netanyahu is facing pressure to wait until the Palestinian movement Hamas returns the remains of the last hostage in Gaza.
The second phase of the ceasefire involves the reopening of the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt.
The ceasefire came into effect on October 10th.
