The United States military used a new secret weapon, a discombobulator, during the operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, US President Donald Trump said.
Trump explained in an interview with the New York Post that the mysterious weapon, whose name is synonymous with confusion, “disabled (enemy) equipment” when US helicopters landed in Caracas on January 3 to arrest Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, without the loss of a single American life.
"Discombobulator. I'm not allowed to talk about it. I'd love to," Trump said during an exclusive interview in the Oval Office, Tanjug reports.
Trump confirmed the use of these weapons in a covert operation in Venezuela.
"They never launched their missiles. They had Russian and Chinese missiles and they never launched any. We went in, they were pushing buttons and nothing worked. They were ready for us," Trump said.
He added that the US has an "excellent relationship" with Venezuela's new president, Delcy Rodriguez.
"She was great," Trump said.
He spoke about the new secret weapon, responding to a reporter's question to comment on media reports that the administration of former US President Joseph Biden had purchased pulsed energy weapons.
The New York Post reports that not much is known about the weapons, but that the media reports followed reports from Venezuela describing Maduro's armed men falling to their knees, "bleeding from their noses" and vomiting blood, before the Americans arrived.
A member of the ousted Maduro's guard team later said that "suddenly all the radar systems turned off without any explanation."
"The next thing we saw were drones, lots of drones, flying over our positions. We didn't know how to react," said a member of the guard team, who said that eight US helicopters then appeared, transporting about 20 US soldiers to the area.
He stated that this was followed by the launch of something unknown to him.
"I don't know how to describe it. It was like a very intense sound wave. Suddenly I felt like my head was exploding from the inside. We all started bleeding from our noses. Some were vomiting blood. We fell to the ground, unable to move. We couldn't even get up after that sonic boom, or whatever it was," said a member of the guard team.
