Iranian President Masoud Pazakhstani apologized today to all citizens affected by the protests that broke out in the country before the New Year and their violent suppression.
During the commemoration of the 46th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Pezeshkiyan said he was aware of the “great sadness” people feel during the protests and repression.
He condemned the "Western propaganda" he believes is following the protests, without naming specific actors.
"We are ashamed before the people and we are obliged to help everyone who was injured in these incidents. We are not looking for a conflict with the people," said Pezeshkiyan.
He added that Iran "is not seeking nuclear weapons" and that Tehran is ready "for any kind of change," given that the country is negotiating with the United States (US) about its nuclear program.
US President Donald Trump suggested yesterday that Washington send another aircraft carrier to Iran to reinforce weeks of threats against the country.
Tens of thousands of people took to the streets across Iran to mark the anniversary of the revolution to support Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, state television reported.
The crowd waved pictures of Khamenei and chanted "Death to America!" and "Death to Israel!".
Regarding negotiations with Washington, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Tehran still "does not have full trust in the Americans."
He told Russia Today (RT) that the US attacked Iran during the last round of negotiations in June last year.
"We need to make sure that this scenario does not happen again, and that is largely up to America," Aragchi said.
Washington recently moved the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, ships and several aircraft to the Middle East to pressure Iran to reach an agreement.
