Eleven people were killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza this morning, Palestinian Civil Defense and health officials said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said at least six people were killed in an attack on a tent settlement in the northern Gaza Strip, and five people were killed in a separate strike in the south of the territory.

The Israel Defense Forces said they had struck terror targets in response to a ceasefire violation by Hamas and that the militants were killed as they emerged from a tunnel into the Israeli-controlled part of the Gaza Strip, the BBC reported.

Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement almost daily since it came into effect on October 10.

The Gaza Civil Defense said 11 people were killed in the strikes, while staff at Al Shifa Hospital said 12 people were killed in an exchange of fire, separate from the strikes.

The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry said at least 600 people have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect.

The latest strikes come as preparations continue for the implementation of the second phase of the US-brokered ceasefire agreement.

US President Donald Trump announced last week the formation of a new body – the Peace Council – which has a mandate from the UN Security Council to establish an international force tasked with securing the border areas in Gaza and overseeing the disarmament of Hamas.

The Peace Committee, which is scheduled to hold its first meeting in Washington on February 19, will oversee the formation of a new technocratic Palestinian government in Gaza and the post-war reconstruction of the territory.

Trump announced today that the committee members have pledged to provide $5 billion for the reconstruction of Palestinian territory and that this will be officially announced at the first meeting of the Peace Committee.

In a post on his platform Truth Social, he also reiterated calls for Hamas to begin disarming itself.
