The Peruvian Congress voted today to impeach Peruvian President Jose Herrio, who took office four months ago, over a scandal involving undeclared meetings with a Chinese businessman.
The move is expected to deepen instability at the highest levels of the Latin American nation, the British agency Reuters reported tonight.
Harry's impeachment was approved by 75 members of Congress, while 24 voted against. Three abstained. A simple majority was required.
It is now up to members of Congress to elect a new president. Jose Herrera is the third consecutive president to be impeached.
