The son of the last Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, said tonight, following US President Donald Trump's statement on the death of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that the Islamic Republic has come to an end.
"The Islamic Republic has effectively come to an end and will soon be consigned to the dustbin of history," Reza Pahlavi wrote on the X platform.
He added that any attempt by the remnants of the regime to appoint a successor to Khamenei is doomed to failure.
"Whoever they put in his position will have neither legitimacy nor survival and will undoubtedly be complicit in the crimes of this regime," Pahlavi added.
He sent a message to the army, police and security forces.
"This is your last chance to join the people, to help ensure Iran's stable transition to a free and prosperous future, and to participate in building that future," Pahlavi wrote.
He told the Iranian people that the time for a massive and decisive presence on the streets was very close.
There were cheers and applause in Tehran that evening after two Israeli television stations reported that Iran's supreme leader had been killed. Trump confirmed the news later in the evening, although Iranian authorities have not officially commented.

Iran announced tonight that its forces had attacked air bases in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, which have been used by US forces for many years, Reuters reports.
Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia with missiles and drones, Iranian state media reported.
That air base has housed American forces for decades.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also targeted the Al-Harir air base in Iraq, which was also used by US forces, according to Iranian state media.
The US and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran early this morning, which responded by launching missiles at Israel and six countries where US military bases are located: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Israeli media reported tonight that one person was killed in the Iranian attack on Tel Aviv, while the emergency services said more than 20 people were injured.

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said tonight at an emergency meeting of the Security Council (SC) that US-Israeli attacks on Iran have led to a significant number of civilian casualties.
At a UN Security Council meeting on this morning's attack by the US and Israel on Iran, which responded with counterattacks across the Middle East, Guterres expressed "deep regret" that an opportunity for diplomacy had been missed, Reuters reports.
"According to Iranian media, an airstrike killed at least 85 people and injured many more at a girls' school in Minab, Hormozgan province. A school in Tehran was also reportedly hit, resulting in the deaths of two people," Guterres said.
He stated that, according to Israeli sources, 89 people were injured in subsequent Iranian attacks on Israel.
The US and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran early this morning, which responded by launching missiles at Israel and four Persian Gulf countries where US military bases are located: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Guterres said that "there are many unconfirmed reports" regarding today's attacks.

Guterres also said he was not in a position to confirm Israeli allegations about the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
An unnamed Israeli official told Reuters on Tuesday that Khamenei had been killed and his body had been found. Iran's Tasnim and Mehr news agencies later reported that Khamenei was "firm and unwavering in command." US President Donald Trump first said he "believed Khamenei was dead" before announcing that he had been killed.

US President Donald Trump announced tonight that Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran.
"Thanks to our close cooperation with Israel, he and the other leaders who were killed with him were unable to do anything. This is the greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their country," Trump wrote on his Truth Social network.
There is currently no confirmation from Iranian authorities about the death of the ayatollah.

As reported by the British news agency Reuters on its website, Trump, after the message on his social network, also said that some people in Iran are asking the US for immunity.
"We are hearing that many of their members of the Revolutionary Guard, the military and other security and police forces no longer want to fight and are seeking immunity," Trump added.

Four people were injured after an incident at Dubai International Airport, the Dubai government's media office said today, as Iran continued to carry out strikes on US bases in the region, Reuters reports.
"Dubai Airports confirms that one terminal corridor at Dubai International Airport (DXB) suffered minor damage in an incident that was quickly brought under control," the Dubai government's media office said in a statement on the X network, without further details.

Iran's Tasnim and Mehr news agencies reported tonight that Khamenei was "firm and unwavering in command," after an Israeli official told Reuters that Iran's supreme leader had been assassinated and his body had been found.
US President Donald Trump told ABC tonight that he "believes Khamenei is dead."
"I don't want to say anything definitive until I see things, but we believe he is (dead). And a significant portion of their (Iranian) leadership has been killed," Trump told ABC.
Trump told NBC News that the US "believes that's the correct story," referring to the allegations that Iran's supreme leader is dead.
Asked who would replace Khamenei, Trump told NBC: "I don't know, but at some point they're going to call me and ask who I'd like. I'm just being a little sarcastic when I say that."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Khamenei's compound was destroyed in a "powerful, sudden attack" and that there were many signs that he was dead.

The Israeli military released a list tonight with the names of seven senior Iranian officials it claims were killed in attacks on Iran.
The list does not mention Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who an unnamed Israeli official said earlier today was killed in an attack on Tehran.
According to the Israeli military list, those killed were:
- Ali Shamkani, Secretary of Iran's Security Council, a key figure in Iranian security decision-making and personal security advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader.
- Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and one of the architects of the plan to “destroy Israel.” In this role, Pakpour commanded the main Iranian armed forces and was responsible for activating strategic fire control systems against Israel.
- Saleh Asadi, head of the Intelligence Directorate of the Khattam al-Anbiya Emergency Command and a senior intelligence officer in the Supreme Command of the Iranian Armed Forces. In this capacity, Asadi participated in developing Iran's strategy against Israel and the United States. He played a key role in the Iranian regime's plan to destroy the State of Israel.
- Mohammad Shirazi, head of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's Military Bureau since 1989. He was responsible for relations between senior commanders of the Iranian armed forces and the Supreme Leader and was a key player in the leadership of Iran's terrorist regime.
- Aziz Nasirzadeh, Minister of Defense of Iran. He has held several key positions, including Commander of the Iranian Air Force and Deputy Commander of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
- Hosein Jabal Ameliyan, president of the SPND organization, has contributed to the development of these projects for years. He was a leading figure in the organization.
- Reza Mozafari-Nija, former chairman of the SPND organization, played a key role in the development of nuclear weapons.

"The enemy is resorting to psychological warfare, everyone should be aware of that," a public relations official was quoted as saying, according to Reuters.
A senior Israeli official told Reuters on Saturday that Khamenei was killed in Israeli and US strikes.
US President Donald Trump told Axios that he has several "exit options" from the US military operation in Iran, stating that he could "go long-term and take over the whole thing, or end it in two or three days," Reuters reports.
