Julian Assange's mother has called Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in a bid to secure political asylum for her son in Ecuador, asking for Australia to reissue his passport.
Christine Assange said she was "very pleased" after Swedish authorities announced that rape charges against him would be dropped. "I have officially called on Malcolm Turnbull to act as Prime Minister and protect the citizen," Assange's mother told ABC Radio Brisbane. She added that Sweden violated his human rights and told lies in the media. "I will put pressure on the UK government to allow him safe passage to Ecuador," said Christine Assange. The founder of WikiLeaks has been living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012.
