Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said today that the United States (US) has no valid reason to launch a military attack on the island or to try to overthrow him.
Diaz-Canel said in an interview with the American television network NBC that an invasion of Cuba would be costly and would affect regional security.
But if that happens, Cubans will defend themselves, he added.
"I don't think there is any justification for the US to launch military aggression against Cuba, or for the US to undertake some operation or kidnapping of the president," Diaz-Canel told American television with the help of a translator.
According to him, if an American military intervention were to occur, then there would be a fight, because Cubans would defend themselves and if necessary die for their country.
Díaz-Canel accused the US government of pursuing a "hostile policy" against Cuba and said he had nothing to ask of Cuba.
He added that Cuba is in favor of dialogue and conversation on any topic, but without conditions, stating that the Americans cannot demand a change in the Cuban political system, just as Cuba itself does not demand the same from the United States.
