Donald Trump was urgently evacuated from the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night after shots were fired.
As Secret Service agents rushed into the packed hall, attendees dropped to the floor and hid under tables, while the US President, First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance were quickly escorted off the stage.
This is not the first time Trump has been involved in a shooting incident - he has been the target of attacks on multiple occasions before.
July 13, 2024: rally in Pennsylvania
Trump suffered an ear injury in what the FBI described as an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, during the presidential campaign.
He was hit by shots fired from an "elevated position" outside the rally site at 6:15 p.m., the U.S. Secret Service said. The shooting killed one attendee and wounded several others, authorities said.
Trump was rushed off the stage and taken to his motorcade, blood dripping from his right ear and down his cheek. Before being driven away, he raised his fist and shouted to the crowd, "Fight!"
The US Congress later launched an investigation into what it called "inexcusable security lapses."
September 15, 2024: Trump Golf Club in Florida
The second incident occurred just a few weeks later in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The FBI then announced that it was investigating "what appears to be" an assassination attempt on Trump, after a Secret Service agent saw a rifle barrel poking through a fence at Trump International Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.
Security forces found an AK-47 rifle with a telescopic sight, two backpacks and a GoPro camera in the bushes around the golf course. Trump was not injured in the incident. Ryan Wesley Root of Hawaii was sentenced to life in prison for the assassination.
February 22, 2026: Mar-a-Lago, Florida
The US Secret Service has shot dead a man who breached the security perimeter around Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump and his wife Melania were in Washington at the time.
The man, in his early 20s, was carrying a shotgun and a can of gasoline, according to the agency and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
The FBI identified the man killed as Austin Tucker Martin, 21, of Moore County, North Carolina.
Violence in American politics
Donald Trump is not the only American politician to be targeted by violent individuals. The history of American politics is marked by numerous such incidents, including several in the 20th century...
George W. Bush, 2005: A man threw a hand grenade near then-President George W. Bush during a speech in Tbilisi, Georgia, but it failed to explode. The attacker was arrested, and Bush escaped unharmed.
Ronald Regan, 1981: Reagan was giving a speech at the Washington Hilton Hotel in March 1981 - the same location where Saturday's shooting occurred - when gunman John Hinckley Jr. opened fire. Reagan was shot and seriously wounded, but survived.
Gerald Ford, 1975: Ford faced two assassination attempts just days apart, when assailants shot at him in separate incidents. He was not injured.
John F. Kennedy, 1963: Kennedy was fatally shot on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a car in the presidential motorcade. He died shortly thereafter at Parkland Memorial Hospital.
