Israeli police, Palestinian authorities claim today, killed a Palestinian as he tried to jump over the concrete wall that separates the occupied West Bank from Jerusalem.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that the Palestinian Red Cross identified the man as Zakaria Qatous (44), a resident of the town of Deir Quds, about twenty kilometers from Al-Ram, the place of his death on Tuesday evening, which is located next to a concrete wall.
The Israeli police are not currently responding to journalistic questions regarding this case.
The deceased was buried today.
His brother, Khalid Qatusa, says he was a father of four children, and that he jumped the wall so he could work in Israel.
"He was forced to this method, because there was no other option to meet the needs of his household and live with dignity. It was the only way. He was neither an aggressor nor a threat," said Khalid Kvatusa.
An increasing number of Palestinians from the occupied West Bank have been attempting to enter Israel illegally in recent years.
Before October 7, 2023, and the Palestinian Hamas attack on Israel that led to the Gaza war, tens of thousands of Palestinians had work permits in the Jewish state. The number of permits has since been sharply reduced, and unemployment among Palestinians has risen sharply.
