The Dukono volcano in North Maluku province in Indonesia erupted today, spewing ash five thousand meters into the air, the country's Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation announced.
The 1.087-meter-high volcano is currently at level two alert, Xinhua reports.
Indonesian authorities have urged residents and visitors to avoid activities within four kilometers of the crater.
They also urged people to prepare protective masks to reduce the risk of respiratory problems caused by volcanic ash, Euronews reports.
