Iranian MP vows strong response after Israeli attacks on Beirut outskirts

Iranian MP Ebrahim Rezai today promised a "firm and painful" response after Israeli attacks on the southern suburbs of Lebanon.

"We will respond firmly and painfully to the aggression of the Zionist regime near Beirut," Rezai wrote on social media. He is the spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament.

"We need to discipline these rabid dogs and put them in their place," he added.

Israel bombed the southern suburbs of Beirut today, just days after a fragile ceasefire reached in talks in Washington came into effect.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today's attacks were retaliation for attacks by the Lebanese movement Hezbollah on northern Israel earlier today. Hezbollah has not yet claimed responsibility for the attacks on Israel.
