US President Donald Trump today called for surgically precise strikes on the forces of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement.
"I would like to see Lebanon live a better life. I would like to see surgical strikes on Hezbollah. I think those strikes should be more precise," the US president said in an interview with the US television network NBC broadcast today.
Regarding Iran, Trump said Washington and Tehran were very close to an agreement, but called for a stronger commitment from Iran to giving up nuclear weapons.
"They (the Iranians) admitted that they would not have nuclear weapons. We included a clause that stipulated that they would not develop nuclear weapons and everyone was very happy about that, except me. I said, 'What happens if they don't develop them, but they buy them, acquire them?' That should be included as well," said Trump, who gave the aforementioned interview on Friday but was aired today.
The US president added that he will not demand that Lebanon be part of a short-term agreement with Iran, as he believes that Lebanon should be part of a comprehensive Middle East peace deal.
