Iran is ready for a "direct confrontation" with the United States (US) if the Israeli offensive in Lebanon continues, Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said today.
"The naval blockade of the Iranian nation and the green light given today by the US to the Zionist regime turn American bases in the region into legitimate targets," Ghalibaf wrote on the social network X.
He added that the Iranian armed forces are ready to act.
"If Israeli aggression against Lebanon continues, we will not simply stop the negotiation process, but will engage in direct confrontation with the enemy," Ghalibaf wrote.
Iranian MP Ebrahim Rezai promised a "firm and painful" response earlier today after Israeli attacks on the southern suburbs of Lebanon.
"We will respond firmly and painfully to the aggression of the Zionist regime near Beirut," Rezai wrote on social media. He is the spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament.
Israel bombed the southern suburbs of Beirut today, just days after a fragile ceasefire reached in talks in Washington came into effect.
