Media: At least 17 killed in Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon

At least 17 people were killed in Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon today, Lebanese media reported.

Nine people were killed in a series of Israeli strikes on the town of Tahrir Deba, located east of the port city of Tyre, the state-run Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported.

At the same time, the Iranian-backed Hezbollah armed group reported that it had carried out more attacks on Israeli troops who had occupied parts of the territory in southern Lebanon, the BBC reports.

Yesterday, 15 people were reportedly killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon after Israel rejected Iran's warning that it must not continue its campaign against Hezbollah.

Iranian leaders are demanding that any agreement to end Iran's war with the United States (US) and Israel include Lebanon, complicating negotiations with US President Donald Trump.

The NNA agency reported that Israeli air and artillery attacks had intensified and that attacks had been carried out on numerous Lebanese towns and villages.

Two Israeli strikes killed three more people in the nearby village of Deir Qanun el-Nahr, and two people were killed in Sediqin, southeast of Tyre, the Lebanese news agency said. Later, there was an attack on the coastal city of Sidon, about halfway between Tyre and Beirut.

According to reporters, two people were killed in a car attack, while one person was killed in the town of Masaken al-Shabia, in the Tyre region.

The Israeli military has not commented on today's strikes, but earlier today it issued a statement saying it had struck six Hezbollah infrastructure sites in Tyre and rocket launchers ready for use in several other areas in southern Lebanon yesterday.
