Workers began removing the name of United States President Donald Trump from the facade of the Kennedy Center early this morning, hours after a court-ordered deadline.
Scaffolding was erected Friday around the section of the building that bears Trump's name, but shortly after midnight, the Kennedy Center asked a judge to extend the deadline until noon today because of storms in Washington.
The Kennedy Center said that "removal work is underway and will be completed in the early hours of this morning."
A court in Washington has ruled to remove the name of US President Donald Trump, which was added in December last year, from the name of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in that city.
The ruling was made following a lawsuit filed by Ohio Democratic Congresswoman Joyce Beatty.
The White House announced in December that the board of directors had voted to name the flagship performing arts center in Washington the "Donald Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts."
The name "John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts" was designated by the US Congress in 1964 in honor of the assassinated president who helped finance the beginning of construction, which was completed only in 1971, with part of his family fortune.
