Officials: Lebanese army withdraws troops from base in the south; Media: Two killed

The Lebanese army withdrew soldiers from a base in southern Lebanon today after Israeli troops advanced in the area, military officials said, with media reports that two people were killed.

The departure from the barracks in Kfar Tebnit came after the Israeli army issued an evacuation warning for about 20 locations, including the town of Nabatiya.

Lebanon's National News Agency reported that two people were killed in airstrikes today on several villages in southern Lebanon.

A senior Lebanese military official told the AP that the Lebanese army had moved its forces from a barracks in Kfar Tebnit after Israeli forces raided the area.

Israeli troops are likely trying to capture a strategically important hill near Kfar Tebnit, which overlooks large parts of Nabatieh and some of the roads connecting the city to nearby villages.

Israel launches series of attacks against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon

The Israeli army today carried out a series of attacks on positions of the militant Hezbollah movement near cities and towns in southern Lebanon.

The Lebanese state news agency NNA reported that Israeli forces have so far bombed eight towns and settlements, most of which are located near the city of Nabatieh.

Earlier today, the Israeli military issued an evacuation alert for 20 locations in southern Lebanon ahead of an attack on Hezbollah, the Times of Israel reported.

"For your safety, you should immediately evacuate your homes and cross north of the Zahrani River. Anyone near Hezbollah positions or weapons of war is endangering their lives," Israeli military spokesman Avichai Adrai said in a warning on the social media platform X.

Since the beginning of the war between the United States (US) and Iran, Israeli forces have been intensively attacking strongholds of Hezbollah, an armed movement supported by Tehran, in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah has since stepped up cross-border attacks on northern Israel.
