The letters spelling out US President Donald Trump's name on the facade of the Kennedy Center have now been removed, the performing arts institution's executive director said today in a court filing that ordered the removal.
A tarp still hung over the scaffolding built for workers removing Trump's name from the building, making it impossible to immediately determine whether the only words left on its white marble facade were "John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts."
Matt Floca, who is also the center's chief operating officer, told the court that he is the "responsible person at the Kennedy Center" qualified to certify compliance with the order.
A court in Washington has ruled to remove the name of US President Donald Trump, which was placed in December last year, from the name of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in that city.
The ruling was made following a lawsuit filed by Ohio Democratic Congresswoman Joyce Beatty.
The White House announced in December that the board of directors had voted to name the flagship performing arts center in Washington the "Donald Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts."
The name "John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts" was designated by the US Congress in 1964 in honor of the assassinated president who helped finance the beginning of the construction of the facility, which was not completed until 1971, and partly with his family fortune.
