US President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday that ending the conflict in Ukraine was vital and that he was ready to help, Russian news agencies reported Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov as saying, Reuters reports.
"Regarding the Ukrainian conflict, Donald Trump once again stressed that the cessation of hostilities is of vital importance," Ushakov was quoted as saying in an address to reporters.
"He said he was ready to act together with European partners and Kiev, including through talks at the G7 summit," he added, referring to the G7 meeting of industrialized nations this week in France.
Ushakov told reporters that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who are leading US-brokered negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, will soon visit Russia again.
Diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine have stalled, while Washington focuses on the conflict in Iran.
During a phone call on Sunday, Trump and Putin discussed the latest diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement on the conflict in Iran, Ushakov said.
"The situation regarding the memorandum between the US and Iran was discussed," Ushakov reported.
"Donald Trump said that a deal is close and that he expects the results of difficult but ultimately successful negotiations to be announced."
Ushakov also said that Putin congratulated Trump on his 80th birthday in an "informal" tone.
