Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said tonight that his country's army will remain in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria for as long as he deems necessary, the Parisian newspaper Le Monde reported on its website.
"We have established broad security zones around Israel. We have done this in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. I want to make this clear: We will remain in these security zones for as long as necessary to protect our country," Netanyahu said at a news conference.
This is his first public address since US President Donald Trump announced late last night that an agreement had been reached with Iran to end the conflict in the Middle East.
Israel has been engaged in military operations in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Iran for months. Some of the war objectives declared by the Israeli military have not been achieved.
The agreement reached between the United States and Iran is considered by a large part of Israeli society and the political class as a step backwards for Israel, Monde added.
