"I swear we don't know where to go"

Nearly a thousand Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began in October, according to the health ministry, as Israel continues to expand control over parts of the territory, Reuters reported, adding that two people were killed in an Israeli strike in central Gaza on Sunday. The new violence comes as talks continue in Cairo on the second phase of US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan.

Witnesses in southern Gaza said that Israeli forces had in recent days expanded the “Yellow Zone” - the areas they control - in the eastern part of Khan Yunis and the northern part of Rafah, where new border markers and concrete barriers had been erected.

On Sunday, Israeli tanks moved deeper into the Al-Tufah neighborhood in northern Gaza City, forcing more families to flee.

“I swear we don’t know where to go,” said Al-Tufah resident Um Mohamed Junaynah, fighting back tears. “We are taking the furniture out of the house, we don’t know where to go. We have nowhere to go.”

Almost the entire population of two million people, most of whom have been displaced multiple times, now lives on a narrow strip of land along the coast, mostly in makeshift tents or damaged buildings, in an area controlled by Hamas.

“It was a night of terror, we were terrified,” said 27-year-old Noor Shabat, speaking about the events in Al-Tufah on the night between Sunday and Monday.

“I’m tired of being displaced, honestly, I’m tired of being displaced. What is our fault for what’s happening to us?” Shabat said. “Should I take my things and go sleep on the street? I’ve slept on the street many times and been displaced many times. I’m tired and I can’t take it anymore. Enough, I’m tired.”
