As Washington prepares for a signing ceremony with Iran, the son of the deposed Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, said today that any agreement with the Islamic Republic is doomed to failure.
"Any agreement that preserves this regime or its remnants will fail. The Iranian people will not accept it. With or without international support, the Iranian people will overthrow this regime," Pahlavi wrote on the social network X.
He added that he had made it clear that confronting a regime that killed more than 40.000 Iranians in January was not only morally reprehensible, but also a strategic mistake.
Pahlavi was alluding to protests that were brutally suppressed earlier this year.
"We will all suffer the consequences," warned Reza Pahlavi, who was speaking after meeting with British parliamentarians during a visit to London.
Pahlavi, 65, whose father, Shah - the "king of kings" of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was overthrown by the Islamic Revolution in 1979, said he was ready to lead a transition if the Islamic Republic fell.
In exile in the United States of America (USA), Reza Pahlavi represents just one of many groups within the Iranian diaspora, often in open conflict with one another.
Pahlavi has failed to win the support of US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly expressed skepticism about his ability to lead Iran.
