A man in northern China attacked people on the street with a knife and injured 18 people, police said today.
Changchuen city authorities said a 50-year-old man suspected of yesterday's attack was taken into custody after being wounded by a gunshot.
It is added that the injured persons are not in serious condition and that the police are investigating the motive of the attack.
Police said, citing family members, that Wang Yunwei had previously been hospitalized for mental problems.
In China, many similar incidents have been recorded, for which people with mental problems are mostly to blame.
Chinese laws restrict the sale and possession of firearms, so attackers commonly use knives or homemade explosives.
