Trump says he has agreed to resume talks with Iran, reiterates that the ceasefire is "over"

US President Donald Trump said today that he had agreed to resume talks with Iran to end the war, but reiterated that the ceasefire that had been in place since April was now officially "over."

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue 'talks'. We have agreed to do so, but the United States has made it clear to them, in no uncertain terms, that the ceasefire is over," the US president wrote on his Twitter platform, following the sudden renewal of hostilities between the two countries in recent days.

Trump said in Ankara two days ago that the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran was complete, but added that he would allow negotiations to continue.

"For me, I think it's over," Trump said on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, where reporters asked him about the status of the ceasefire.

Trump then said that it was "a waste of time to negotiate with the Iranians who are liars."

The Iran War began with US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28th.
