At least six people were killed and the same number were wounded in a car bomb explosion near a restaurant in a migrant district in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu.
Abdifatah Omar Halane, spokesman for the regional administration of Banadir, told the assembled journalists that the general of the Somali National Army, Abdi Bashir Adan, was among the dead.
The wounded were transferred to the nearest hospitals in the capital.
Bilou Ali, one of the eyewitnesses, told Anadolu Agency that the attack happened during rush hour traffic when there were a large number of people in the area, including civilians and civil servants.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for today's attack.
However, Somalia's al-Shabaab rebel group has previously threatened to continue activities against the country's internationally recognized government.
Somalia's President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, elected to office this year, previously declared war on al-Shabaab, saying the country's authorities would defeat the group in the next two years.
