US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, adding that the war could be over by the end of his term, which expires in November 2028.
Asked about the chances of the war ending during his term, Trump said he thought it would.
"I think it will, yes. I even thought the war would be over sooner. I thought it was the easiest issue to resolve because I get along well with both leaders (of Russia and Ukraine). I really thought it would be my easiest task," the US president said.
From March 2023 to October 2024, Trump said 53 times that he would end the war in Ukraine "within 24 hours" or on the first day of his term in the White House.
The US president said he had been in constant communication with his Russian counterpart, expressing confidence that Putin was ready to reach an agreement.
