Controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been arrested in the United States after British authorities announced they were bringing new charges against them, the British media outlet BBC reported today.
The British newspaper The Guardian reports that the US Marshals Service announced that US federal authorities arrested them on Saturday in Miami.
The British Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced that Andrew Tate has been charged with seven more counts of rape, as well as other alleged crimes, including human trafficking for sexual exploitation and child pornography.
Tristan Tate has been charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of organizing or facilitating human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
The alleged crimes were committed between July 2010 and August 2017. The Tate brothers have previously denied any wrongdoing.
"The decisions to charge follow the receipt of an additional file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police, bringing the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven," said Malcolm McHaffie, head of the Special Crimes Unit at the Crown Prosecution Service.
The US Marshals Service confirmed to the BBC that the Tate brothers had been taken into custody, while a spokesman for the US Department of Justice said the arrests were made "as part of extradition proceedings".
The CPS said in a statement that it had requested the extradition of the brothers from the US, who have dual British-American citizenship.
The Tate brothers' lawyer, Joseph McBride, said after their arrest on Saturday night that "the world knows that Andrew and Tristan are innocent."
"Their enemies know this best. That is precisely why they are being attacked," McBride continued, describing the new indictments in the UK as a "political coup".
He said the new indictments were designed in response to a defamation lawsuit the brothers filed in the US.
"We are confident that as soon as the relevant judge has reviewed the facts and as soon as the Department of Justice confronts this outrageous abuse of its own powers, Andrew and Tristan Tate will be released. America does not do dirty political work for Britain," McBride said.
In May 2025, prosecutors confirmed a list of 21 charges that Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 37, would eventually face in the UK.
The alleged crimes were committed between 2012 and 2016.
In 2024, Bedfordshire Police secured European arrest warrants for the brothers in order to extradite them from Romania, where they reside and are under criminal investigation.
In June, the brothers lost a legal battle to be told the names of their prosecutors in the UK, after the Crown Prosecution Service decided it was necessary to keep the names of the alleged victims secret until the court proceedings officially began.
