United States President Donald Trump said Iran must pay compensation for all the people it has killed or seriously injured in the war, attacks and protests.
He made the remarks in response to an earlier call by Tehran officials for the US to meet conditions for achieving peace, including compensation for damage suffered during attacks carried out by the US and Israel on Iranian territory.
"I also demand compensation from Iran for all the people they have severely injured with roadside bombs and in the numerous conflicts for which they are known," Trump said in a post on social media, Reuters reports.
Iran previously announced that it was close to reaching an agreement with Oman that would define new shipping routes between the two countries through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has reiterated that the US must meet certain conditions, including paying compensation and ending sanctions and military threats, before the key waterway can be reopened.
Before the conflict, about a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passed through the Strait of Hormuz, and it has been practically blocked since the US-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28.
