Israel bombed an air base in Syria

Israel targeted an air base in northwestern Syria today, causing material damage but no casualties.

Syrian state television said the runway at Abu Duhur air base, in the northwestern province of Idlib, was hit.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, calling it "an unjustified aggression and a gross violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

The Israeli army did not comment on the attack.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based organization, said foreign fighters had previously stayed at the base.

The Observatory added that Turkey, a key ally of the Syrian government, is renovating the air base, which had been out of use for years during the conflict in Syria that has killed almost half a million people.
