Pakistan's Supreme Court on Monday ordered authorities to transfer jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan to a private hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination, his lawyers and party officials said.
The court also ordered that Kanu be allowed weekly visits from family members.
Khan's family has been trying for some time to secure visits and examinations by a doctor of his choice.
Pakistan earlier this year banned Khan from visiting after receiving intelligence reports of a possible attack on the prison where he is being held.
Khan filed a petition with the court several months ago, seeking a transfer to the hospital, as well as permission to be visited by personal doctors, family and lawyers.
According to Khan's lawyer Salman Akram Raja, the court said the order was being issued because Khan's health was at risk, and access to healthcare is guaranteed by the Constitution of Pakistan.
He urged Khan's supporters not to gather outside the hospital, so as not to disturb other patients.
