A recently erected memorial to slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk was vandalized overnight in Phoenix, the organization he founded said.
The monument was splashed with red paint, Tyler Bowyer, the chief operating officer of Turning Point Action, a youth-focused political organization founded by Kirk, said in a post on X Network.
Phoenix police confirmed that they responded to reports of a vandalized monument outside the headquarters of the Turning Point organization on Sunday morning and urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
"We woke up this morning to find our headquarters vandalized by radical criminals," Bouyer wrote on the X network, along with photos of the monument and a separate inscription that was also spray-painted.
The memorial was unveiled Thursday, marking the one-year anniversary of Kirk's death in a shooting during a Turning Point event in Utah on September 10, 2025.
Tyler Robinson, accused of killing Kirk, has pleaded not guilty to murder charges and could face the death penalty if convicted.
Kirk's activism and legacy caused deep divisions in American society.
Civil rights activists criticized Kirk for rhetoric they described as racist, anti-immigrant, transphobic, and misogynistic, pointing to his public statements that disparaged African Americans, the LGBTQ+ community, Muslims, and immigrants.
His supporters described him as a defender of conservative values and public debate, who mobilized young voters to support President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
