The White House has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to Washington, US National Security Adviser John Bolton said.
Putin and US President Donald Trump met several times on the sidelines of multilateral meetings, but had only one bilateral summit, in July in Finland.
"We invited President Putin to Washington," Bolton said.
It is not known whether Putin accepted the invitation.
After the meeting in Helsinki, Trump's critics, and even members of his own party, said that the American president was no match for Putin, reports Reuters.
Trump and Putin plan to hold a bilateral meeting in Paris on November 11, marking the anniversary of the end of the First World War.
