An unidentified drone approached the Russian Khmeimim airbase in Syria, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced, and Sputnik reported.
"On the XNUMXst of May, in the late evening hours, the radars at the Russian Khmeimim air base detected a small aerial target (drone) of unknown origin approaching the airport," the statement said.
It is added that the drone was shot down by anti-aircraft missiles.
"There are no injuries or material damage. The Russian airbase Hmeymim is functioning normally," said the representative of the Russian airbase Hmeymim.
Khmeymim is one of two Russian military bases in Syria. The other is located in Tartus.
