A 70-year-old woman from Uganda gave birth to twins with the help of artificial insemination treatment, becoming one of the oldest women in the world to give birth.
The mother of a boy and a girl, Safina Nmukwaya, gave birth by caesarean section at a hospital in Uganda's capital, Kampala.
The International Women's Hospital and Fertility Center said Namukvaya is doing well, talking and walking.
The woman in labor also gave birth to a daughter in 2020, when she was 67 years old, in the same hospital with the help of artificial insemination.
Namukwaja is the oldest woman to give birth at the hospital, which specializes in helping couples have children, and is owned by a prominent gynecologist in the East African region.
Research into artificial insemination treatment has seen success in recent years. In 2019, a 73-year-old woman in southern India gave birth to twins after treatment.
