The Albanian capital was abuzz last weekend with the arrival of Kanye West, better known as Ye. Columns of cars, buses and tens of thousands of people flocked to the Eagle Stadium on Saturday, which was built as a temporary facility exclusively for this event, in the Kaşar area, along the Tirana-Durres highway. The stadium, designed for around 60.000 visitors, was equipped to the standards of major world productions. Behind the seemingly simple set design was one of the most technically demanding productions that Albania has ever hosted. The central element of the stage was a monumental sphere, the installation of which was completed just a few days before the concert. It became the trademark of the entire performance - the platform around which the entire visual identity of the evening was designed.

To facilitate the arrival of the large number of visitors, the organizers provided shuttle buses that ran throughout the day from the center of Tirana to Eagle Stadium. The gates were announced to open at 17 p.m., but they opened only two hours later, so long lines formed in front of the stadium. Despite the wait and the high July temperatures, there was almost no nervousness. Conversations in different languages, familiar Kanye hits and jokes about his famous statements came from the crowd. It was clear that a few hours of waiting would not diminish the excitement for the concert that many had been planning for months.

When the lights went out and the first notes echoed through the stadium, tens of thousands of people greeted him with a standing ovation. From the first minutes, the audience sang along with him to hits that marked different phases of his career - from songs from the albums “The College Dropout” and “Graduation” to more recent releases, confirming how much his musical oeuvre has marked several generations of listeners. What also contributed to the overall impression was the famous sphere, which was an active part of the performance - an element that connected the music, visual identity and energy of the audience into one whole.

Kanye West has been considered one of the most important rappers, producers and authors of contemporary music for more than two decades. His albums “The College Dropout”, “Late Registration”, “Graduation”, “808s & Heartbreak” and “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” are considered milestones in the development of hip-hop. In addition to his music, he has often attracted attention with fashion projects, business ventures and controversial public appearances, which have often put him in the center of global attention.

And that is precisely what makes his concerts so special. After almost two hours of the program and the last bars, the audience slowly left the Eagle Stadium. Tiredness was felt, but not disappointment. For some, it was a concert of their favorite artist, for others, an opportunity to be part of an event that will be talked about for a long time. One thing is certain - that evening Tirana was not only the capital of Albania. For a few hours, it became a gathering place for the European hip-hop audience and the host of one of the most anticipated concerts of this summer.
