At the "Baguette Show" held on Sunday in Siren, a small town near Paris, 12 bakers managed to break the world record for the longest baked baguette in the world, at 140,53 meters - the French online television BFMTV reported.
This record was confirmed by representatives of the Guinness Book of Records during an exhibition organized by the French Confederation of Bakers and Confectioners.
Since June 16, 2009, that record has been held by Italy with a baguette of 132,62 meters.
The goal was to "bring the record home" - said the organizers of the exhibition, since a baguette is a long, thin, crispy French bread.
The dough for the competition was mixed and shaped at the exhibition and baked in front of the audience in a special oven through which a conveyor belt transported the giant baguette centimeter by centimeter.
As the recipe dictates, the dough is made simply: wheat flour, water, yeast and salt, but baguette art is how it's done.
The record-breaking baguette was tasted by curious people with Nutella - to ensure that not even a crumb of that crispy bread was left.
