The Croatian media were concerned about the situation in Serbia after the release of the war criminal Vojislav Šešelj from custody in The Hague, they were worried about the gathering of radicals on the streets of Belgrade, the nationalist rhetoric of the nineties... And the president of the country sent a letter to the court in The Hague, very worried that the sick and insane Šešelj, after of Serbia, could destabilize Croatia as well. This is how the head of state writes his pre-election political pamphlet, actually intended for the ears of local right-wingers, only formally addressed to the court in The Hague, while the otherwise "stable" state increasingly resembles the one from twenty years ago, damned nationalist, in which war veterans are allowed to for weeks they have been threatening from the street they occupied in the middle of Zagreb.

There they set up a tent in which they sleep, light a fire outdoors, grill during the day, and hang large sheets over the smoky area with threatening messages to "traitors" and "Yugoslavs" in the state leadership. They complain about the injustice inflicted on them by this government, although they are a privileged population, whose incomes greatly exceed those of most other citizens, and their ringleader, for example, is the owner of a large security company that does lucrative business with the state, and he is suspected of embezzlement and illegal dealings with the arrested mayor of Zagreb. Their nationalist rhetoric is a copy of the one that is running through the streets of Belgrade these days, and their only and completely unfounded demand is the dismissal of the relevant minister.

By the way, a volunteer who spent eight months in Serbian camps, so that today his former comrades threaten him with death every day and insult his family. Of course, everything shows the gross political manipulation of the right-wing opposition party, which, even before these presidential elections, uses its parapolitical wing, as always, so the demonstrators wear military uniforms, even though this is prohibited by law, such as prohibited and unannounced rallies or barbecuing in city centers. All this, however, does not apply to the privileged group of veterans whose election this government fears, so the material reward for their dangerous street demonstration of power has already arrived with the just-completed budget review, which cut the budgets of all ministries, only the already rich Ministry of Veterans received additional funds .

No one dares to point out the illegality of the veterans' rally, although the institutions are normally quite rigorous when it comes to mass manifestations of discontent, in fact here the police are more than cooperative and do not even think of intervening with fascist symbols or similar greetings. Therefore, we are indeed witnessing the bizarre courtship of the rulers precisely to those who are trying to overthrow them. On the other hand, just a few kilometers from Zagreb, in the small town of Glina, the city government is very inclined to prevent any street anarchy, so it made a decision that the place of gathering and commemoration can only be at the cemetery or under the cross of the local Catholic church. All other places are prohibited for gathering, which cunningly, through a short administrative procedure, actually prevents the honoring of the fallen Serbian civilians in front of the former Orthodox church, who were killed by Croatian fascists way back in 1941. At that time, they killed as many as five hundred citizens of Serbian nationality, and this is considered the biggest mass crime in the country at that time, outside of the concentration camps. After the Second World War, a memorial home was built on the site of the burned down Orthodox church and a plaque was placed with the names of all the murdered Serbian citizens of Glina and Topuski. In 1995, after the war action Storm, it was renamed the Croatian Home, and all signs were removed, including plaque with the names of the victims. However, in all the past years, the commemoration of the victims of that Ustasha crime was held in the same place, that is, in front of the Croatian House, always in an atmosphere of fear and threats, with a boycott of the local authorities, the memorial plaque was never returned, so that, finally, that event was banned.

However, no one from the ranks of the official left or central media reacted to that act of administrative violence, which trivializes even the constitutional provision on freedom of assembly, and does not allow Serbs to even be victims, let alone equal citizens, the prime minister only mumbled something incoherently and of course it does not occur to him to deal with some chauvinist edict there, even less with bringing some provincial government into order. In any case, the result of the ideological flirtation with the basic provisions of the Constitution is that the commemoration in Glina, as a quiet memory of the victims, devoid of barbecue and nationalist fire, is prohibited, unlike the illegal gathering of right-wing militants in Zagreb. That is the hypocritical face of this state where even the victims are measured in terms of ethnicity, so that all rights, even from beyond the grave, are reserved only for Croats, not members of the Serbian minority. To that extent, the cynical message to the Serbian community that they are allowed to commemorate their dead, but only on Croatian terms, makes a really high-quality contribution to the fascism of society. That is, under the Catholic cross!
