"See Montenegro and die", would be the current version of the famous film title, which in the meantime has become a proverb - "See Naples and die" (Vedi Napoli e poi muori, Riccardo Freda, 1951), at least for - wild animals.
A bear with two cubs was brutally killed in Berane. She got too close to people. That is sometimes enough to ruin. The bear didn't attack anyone, they assume that, after the winter sleep, disoriented and hungry, it got lost... The story fits perfectly into some third world backwater and it's almost unbelievable that something like this is possible in today's Europe.
Similar to the unlucky bear, a rare eagle from Poland also passed by. It was a protected species, a specimen that, as a bonus, also had a gadget for tracking protected animals. The eagle owl thought it was some kind of international espionage, he immediately went into action, killed the bird and took it to the police to determine who the Pole was spying for. By the way, he was killed by a person who works in the national park. Our experts, in terms of breadth and depth, have always been there.
I remember, at that time, in this place, so to speak, I suggested that "The Unfortunate Flying Pole should be put on the flag, not only as a (futile) apology. (After all, according to Academician Rotković, the ancestors of Montenegrins came from those parts.) Perhaps he would be the perfect symbol of Montenegrin stupidity, savage and endless. A perfect symbol of lack of education here, fear of communication, of everything new. How could the ill-fated eagle know that instead of heading towards the eagle mountains, he was flying over the cuckoo's nest" (2012).
Among the Montenegrins, a murdered bear also wandered on a similar evil path.
Today, when, in the largest part of the world, wilderness has been reduced to the margin, still an "undervalued" space, what investors have not yet hungered for, certain issues have more weight. It may seem perverse to some, but today, man as a species confirms his essential "tameness" precisely through his relationship with wild animals.
However, it is obvious that the psychological relationship to the wild cannot evolve as quickly as social models and social frameworks. In a one-on-one encounter with beasts, man feels as helpless today as in the most distant prehistory. Any sense of superiority then turns out to be a ridiculous illusion.
In an age of radical devastation of wilderness areas, game is protected. Cynicism, so typical of a sapiens. As we understood from the news about the killed bear, there are institutional forms for this. Some kind of Team for the protection of large animals... But, all that did not stop the killer.
Bear and bear are very frequently present in our proverbs and everyday expressions - Montenegrins like to mention that one does not "catch a bear", but also that someone is protected "like a (white) bear". You will often hear "that bear" or "it's a bear" in reference to people, in a completely opposite meaning, even though the comparative being is the same.
The bear is in the coat of arms of Berlin, that's why the prestigious prize of the Berlin festival is called the Golden Bear. The encounter with that bear changed many people's lives. A Montenegrin poet has a book entitled "Bear in Berlin" (Miroslav Đurović), and I also remember Igor Lasić's great prose about bears who, while the war is roaring around, flee from Bosnia.
I have never understood the need to kill wild animals, not out of necessity, self-defense, but for pure fun. Where we actually play with our semi-mythical ancestors, we go into the forest and - hunt. But I understand that it exists. That is why it is regulated by some laws, which obviously mean nothing as soon as a bear appears. Or an eagle with an unknown device on it. First to shoot, then ask who is going...
