AB curse

The current story of Đukanović withdrawal from politics. In this column, in August 2003, I wrote a text ("Withdrawal") and proposed the same thing that those who are well-intentioned towards Montenegro are still proposing to him today. Then he talked about some kind of conspiracy against him and CG, and I ended the text with the sentence that "a story about a conspiracy is always an unequivocal symptom of the twilight." What I recognized then as "dusk", now after almost two decades - it is still going on. Some twilights are obviously too long. When they finish, it is already dark night...

In the part of the public scene that supports DPS, it is noticeable that one part of the scene fetishizes Đukanović, and attributes all evil to "the party", that "bunch of incompetents who wouldn't be anywhere if it weren't for Mila". A political philosophy is looming that could be summed up most simply by the formulation "Everything for Milo, Milo for nothing". You will recognize this awareness by the "fierce" criticism of the party, but the comprehensive amnesty of Đukanović himself. Funny "maneuver", the concept of the Master.

And how did this persistent curse begin?

In the past few days, we had a reminder of the so-called AB revolution from January 1989. Then we learned that "years begin in January". Although it is clear that it was no revolution, but a bare party coup.

Even today, Montenegrin society pays the price of that wrong turn. Instead of dismantling the one-party system and opening up the space for political freedom, the Montenegrin political mind chose deception and giving in to national frustrations and the lowest passions. And the most shameful war against the neighbors.

For younger readers - those were the days of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a time when Europe was strongly changing its image. Those who understood what happened then are miles ahead of us today. Instead of reforms and political changes, Montenegrin society stepped into the darkness of political retardation.

The dismissed politicians at the time (called "lamb fools") left disappointed and bitter, but certainly none of them were Bela Gutman, and did not utter any curse. I'm thinking of the famous coach of Benfica, who was kicked out after winning the Champions Cup, and allegedly cursed Benfica not to win any European trophies for the next hundred years. Sixty years have passed since the curse was uttered, and the Lisbon team really hasn't won a single trophy, despite the numerous finals it has played...

Since then, since that AB fraud, not the revolution, it seems that something like the curse of Bela Gutman hovers over this society...

After all, during the "AB revolution", Đukanović rode together with many of today's political opponents. This misogynistic primitive who insults the MPs was then his confidant and ideologue. All those obscure characters were brought to the stage by the political elite to which he belonged and led by Đukanović himself.

The point was only rhetorically in the changes or reforms, in fact it was about nationalist mobilization on the trail Milošević project.

In the light of today's distribution of forces, one fact is interesting. We had two major mobilizations of Serbs in Montenegro. And both, in one way or another, were created/caused by Milo Đukanović.

That mobilization from the beginning of the nineties was his project at the time, in which he participated wholeheartedly, gave his best, and even more. The second mobilization of Serbs in Montenegro is a direct consequence of Đukanović's blunted political reflex, and the loss of connection with reality, which usually marks the final phase of an autocracy. It is about the so-called litija movement (2019-2020), which Đukanović "launched" with the famous Law, actually not so much by its content, but by the method of its adoption.

Today's fans of Đukanović probably don't even notice this, but it would be nice to know if there is even something in all this that confuses or disturbs them.

The awareness of when it's time to leave belongs only to the greatest politicians. If he belonged to such, Đukanović would have retired a long time ago.
