The Ministry of Culture and Media (MKM) will, as part of the SA CREATIVITY project, implement the reconstruction and revitalization of the Španjola fortress, which entails the reconstruction of the building within the existing framework and the establishment of an international creative center.
This was said today by the Minister of Culture and Media, Tamara Vujović, on the occasion of the Government's acceptance of the Subsidy Agreement between the Region of Pula, the Department of Economic Development and the MKM for the SA - CREATIVITY project.
"The goal of this activity is, above all, the protection of cultural property from further deterioration by putting it in a new, sustainable and modern function," said Vujović.
Montenegro will receive 1,5 million euros from the European Union for the reconstruction of the fortress.
"Vujović, who will sign the Agreement, said that one of the priorities of the Ministry is to create conditions for the sustainable development of culture and investment in cultural infrastructure and the protection of cultural assets, in order to create an environment for the recognition and competitiveness of the Montenegrin creative sector at the international level and the promotion of cultural tourism , especially emphasizing that the money for financing this project comes from the European Union's funds," the announcement states
"After the reconstruction, the building will have facilities for residential stays of artists and creative entrepreneurs and the development of creativity and creative industries, especially in the field of multimedia art, as well as applied sculpture, graphics and painting. The building, after the reconstruction, will have established and equipped exhibition rooms, presentation and accommodation units, office space and a shared garden - a summer stage," it added.
"We consider this a great incentive for the restoration of our heritage, which we will approach responsibly. The funds received are not entirely sufficient for reconstruction, so part of the funds are also expected from the state budget. Also, as we do for the hub in Kotor, we are finding a sustainable management model for such to cultural institutions, which would provide an open platform for the stay of artists, the development of creativity and innovation," Vujović pointed out.
"The implementation of the SA CREATIVITY project will be a continuation of the strategic activities of the Ministry of Culture and Media, which are oriented towards creating conditions for the development of creativity and creative industries through the sustainable use and valorization of cultural assets, which is also recognized in the recently adopted National Program for the Development of Culture 2023-2027," the announcement reads. with the fact that the holder of the SA CREATIVITY project is the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro, and the project partners are the National Tourism Organization of Montenegro, the Ministry of Tourism of Albania, the Region of Puglia and the Region of Molise from Italy. The total value of the approved project is almost 4,8 million euros, of which co-financing by the European Union 85 percent for Montenegro and Albania, i.e. 80 percent for Italy, while the rest of the funds are provided by all project partners in accordance with their budget," the announcement reads.
"The budget allocated for the Ministry of Culture and Media is almost 1,5 million euros, and the own contribution is about 218 thousand euros. The project implementation period is until December 31, 2027," it concludes.
