Actress and producer Ivona Čović Jaćimović was appointed acting director of the Podgorica City Theatre.
Until the election of the director, Čović Jaćimović will perform his duties in place of playwright and screenwriter Stevan Koprivica, whose mandate has expired, the City Theater announced.
"It is an honor and a great responsibility to be at the head of a theater that, with its seventy-year mission, has left an indelible cultural mark in our capital city, in our Montenegro as well as in the region. I will do my best to ensure that, during my acting mandate, the City Theater maintains its position as a prestigious cultural institution, to which Generations of actors, directors, dramatists and other masters of the theater business, who have dedicated their lives to this theater, give me the right to approach the assigned task with optimism the next season and speeding up the work on our new home are unavoidable tasks that I will devote myself to. Of course, with the cooperation of the team and the capital city," said Čović Jaćimović.
As stated in the announcement, Ivona Čović Jaćimović graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje in the class of Professor Bora Stjepanović.
"She has a master's degree in Media and Communications at Singidunum University in Belgrade. She founded NVU Arlekin, which she heads, an organization that has grown into a relevant independent theater company, with numerous productions of plays for children, as well as an evening scene, recognized in domestic and regional frameworks and supported by cultural institutions in Montenegro, as well as funds under the auspices of the European Union. She is a producer of several documentaries with socially engaged topics," it added.
Koprivica has been at the head of the house since October 2019 as an acting president, and since April 2020 he has been in office for a full term.
"I'm glad that Ivona will be at the head of the house because she belongs to the theater as an actress, but also a producer. I expect her to do well, in not very favorable conditions for the theater, I know that she can and can do it," said Koprivica.
