At the official opening of the international scientific conference "Constitution of the SFRY from 1974 - fifty years later", director of the Institute of History of the University of Montenegro, scientific advisor Dr. Radenko Šćekić, said that through these and similar gatherings, the Institute will contribute to the development of historical sciences and to the illumination of key issues from the recent and distant past, aligned with the celebration of the University's jubilee.

"This topic, the Constitution as the highest legal act, fundamentally redefined relations within the then Yugoslav federation. In the four and a half decades of its existence, socialist Yugoslavia changed four constitutions, which indicates the continuous challenges it faced," Šćekić said.

He invited scholars from the region to contribute their perspectives to the discussion on this important historical issue, pointing to the last decade as a period when the Constitution instead of stability became the point of state disintegration.

Prof. Ph.D Cedomir Čupić from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade emphasized that history, although often contested, has a significant influence on the future as well, thanks to the lessons it provides.

"The right moment for deep conversations on this topic is, as history itself advises, fifty years later. This is not just a regional topic; federalism, as a form of organization that has existed since the first organized states, has global significance and different implications over time," said Cupic.

The vice-rector for teaching at the University of Montenegro, prof. Ph.D Veselin Mićanović, he recalled the importance of 1974, when the University was founded, which is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year.

In honor of the jubilee, according to the University's website, round tables are being organized to consider the future ten-year development of Montenegro in the fields of education, economy, health, law, culture, energy sustainability, transport, reindustrialization and digital transformation.

Mićanović expressed the hope that the conference will raise many topics and lay the groundwork for considering different perspectives, which is crucial for better understanding and progress.
